Misconceptions of a Firearms Enthusiast

For a long time, I ignored the concept of the Bisley grip frame. It didn’t look like the traditional plow handle of the sleek Colt Single Action Army. Nor did it share the similar graceful silhouette of the classic Ruger Flattop, so it couldn’t be as good. Same can be said of the curved lever versions found on some lever action rifles. You don’t know what you don’t know. Preconceived notions are often wrong. I suspect I’m not alone in these exercises in ignorance and unfounded bias.

Thinking the Bisley grip frame of the Ruger and Colt didn’t look traditional, Jahn once ignored them. Today, they are found on many of his go-to handguns. If limited to one factory handgun, he would choose Ruger’s Bisley. (Photo: Gary Eastridge)
